About The Cottage Grocery

We are a specialty grocery store, a cafe, a bakery, a boutique wine shop and a coffee shop...but at our core, we offer a huge selection of prepared foods, both fresh and frozen (over 350 homemade options). Special order and large group catering also available. We have plenty of seating in each one of our markets and open kitchens, where everything is made from scratch, daily. All recipes start in our own homes. We do not have commissaries or ghost kitchens, and we do not wholesale any of our products.

The Cottage Grocery is a specialty food store in Houston, Texas. It is listed at 2620 Joanel St, Houston, TX 77027, which places it among the local businesses of Houston that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as fresh food market, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

Store size varies enormously, from a small corner grocery with a few aisles to a full supermarket chain location in Houston with a bakery, seafood counter and food court under one roof. Sales and promotions are often posted in-store or in a weekly flyer rather than online, so prices listed on a website may be out of date. Seafood markets sell live and on-ice product and can usually clean or prepare fish on request for a small fee. Specialty food stores in Texas may focus narrowly on one category, like a butcher, a rice and dry goods shop, or an import store, so calling ahead to confirm stock for a specific item saves a wasted trip.

Hours are published for 2 days a week. On most of those days it is open 7:30 AM–5 PM. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach The Cottage Grocery at (713) 640-5103; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is thecottagegrocery.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 186 reviews, which is a strong result for a specialty food store in Houston and suggests consistent service.

Houston is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Houston follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Cute place, great music, a sizable selection of to-go foods. The coffee bar prices seemed reasonable. If you go at the right time you can snag a parking spot if you don't live within walking distance. I ordered an iced latte and breakfast taco from their menu. The employee was nice but they seemed to have a hard time locating that item on their kiosk. I overheard their coworker tell them to just select "latte" since it was too many buttons. I didn't think anything of it at the time, I assumed they knew what they were talking about. My drink came out hot. I didn't want to run late for work so I just left. The place was crowded and it already took about 10 minutes to make my order so I didn't want to wait again. The coffee was okay. The sauce for the taco was pretty good.

Really sad I was so excited to come try! I ordered an iced matcha (it was $8 with oat milk and syrup) and it tasted like straight oat milk. It was so light, plus they use Oatly milk which imo is terrible for matcha. I could tell the barista wasn’t experienced at making Matcha (even the girl at the register said it should he way darker) So I did not want them to remake it, and waste their product on something I knew wasn’t going to be good. I just wanted a refund, but they told me they don’t do refunds. The manager ended up coming over - he did not apologize or even address me. He just abruptly grabbed the drink in front of me taking it away (which is fine it was terrible lol just kinda rude) and handed me a receipt for refund. No sorry or have a good day. It was a very odd experience and definitely an overhyped TikTok place. For $8 it should be a ceremonial matcha, homemade syrup and a decent barista oat milk. 7/21/26 Following up to owners response: it was $8.12 & your syrups are definitely not homemade I saw the Barista pump from a TORANI bottle lol To clarify - I understand your policy but it wasn’t properly made. Your matchas should be a dark/med green and not watered down

Wow I just cannot speak highly enough of this place. We regularly stock up our freezer with their frozen dinners which is a huge help with a hungry family. All made from scratch, quality, healthy ingredients. The vibe when you visit makes you feel good too. I pop them in the oven frozen around 400-425F and they are ready within 90-120mins.

Soo disappointed drove 30 minutes for their coffee. I asked one of the workers for their most popular latte and was recommended β€œthe signature latte” with no description of the drink whatsoever. I ended up hating the drink and wanting to exchange for something else and was not allowed to do so. Do not recommend.

Can not believe I did not know this place was here. So very glad that I discovered it. Had wonderful lunch and took entrees to go for later. The chicken salad/fruit/toast/pasta salad lunch box was divine. I wish I had gotten another to bring back for the following day. Chicken salad was perfect- not too mayo-isy, shredded perfectly and very tasty; pasta salad was fantastic and fruit very fresh. Austin has nothing like this place- nothing even close. Husband had the ham and cheese and said it was great- and the dijon mustard that comes on the side was excellent. My friend had told me when she goes she brings a cooler to take back home- I see why now. Next visit to Houston will be doing the same. Quality ingredients, everything was fresh and employees were all very friendly and helpful. They had an amazing cookie/ muffins/ cakes case which I did not try this visit but will. I did not get photos of the food- but you can see the counter where the baked goods are - around the corner from that is where you order and the fridges line three walls. Inside and outside seating.
